Art Appreciation

Overview:

This 8-week course was a general introduction to the visual arts designed to create an appreciation of the vocabulary, media, techniques, and purposes of the creative process. Students critically interpreted and evaluated works of art within formal, cultural, and historical contexts.

Structure:

The course was divided into chapters, with four major assessments and four major assignments.  Learners accessed the course materials and then completed the assessment and activities by the stated deadlines.

Activities included discussion boards, virtual museum visits, presentations, reflection questions, and multimedia projects.

For example, I incorporated a multimedia project that the learners really engaged with. They researched and then re-created their own artwork through photography, found props, and friends and family. I empowered the students’ potential to find their own creative solutions by providing support and parameters but also by giving them an open-ended project.

Role:

I designed and built this course on D2L (Desire2Learn) using the Quality Matters standards. I created a variety of learning modalities in the courses using videos, slideshows, discussions, projects, and other technology.
