History of Art: Prehistoric to the 14th Century

Overview:

This 8 week course was a chronological analysis of the historical and cultural contexts of the visual arts from the prehistoric times to the 14th century. Students critically interpreted and evaluated works of art within formal, cultural, and historical contexts.

Role:

Developer and Facilitator. I designed and built this course on the D2L (Desire to Learn) platform using the Quality Matters (QM) standards. I created a variety of learning modalities using videos, slideshows, discussion boards, and quizzes.

Structure:

The structure consisted of 8 week-long modules. Each module was divided into chapters. There were four major assessments and four major projects in the course. Learners accessed the course materials on demand, and then completed the assessments and projects by the stated deadlines. Activities included discussion boards, virtual museum visits, presentations, reflection questions, and multi-media projects. For example the interactive portion included discussions, in which the learners submitted the written responses in the LMS system to record their completion of the assignment.
