Painting Fundamentals

Overview:

This course introduced students to basic concepts and techniques of painting as a means of visual communication.  The class projects, critiques, and demonstrations covered issues of color, texture, figure/ground relationships, and spatial concepts. Practical material concerns of paint handling, mixing, and application were addressed. Another primary goal was to introduce students to basic painting vocabulary, followed by critical observation and articulation. I used various visual references, such as still life, models, and student-sourced items.

Role:

I developed the curriculum, demonstrated painting techniques with examples, led the class in critiques and visual analysis of artworks. I also graded portfolios and maintained and submitted by posted deadlines required records such as attendance, grades, and course assessment measures.

Structure:

This was an in-person delivery with face-to-face instruction on self-directed projects with weekly critiques and demonstrations.
